From Taiwan to Chicago: The Heritage That Informs Our Aesthetic

We were raised on contrast.

In Taiwan, beauty lived in quiet rituals — handwritten scrolls, carved seals, stories passed down through generations. In Chicago, it moved fast — clean lines, modern design, light that shifts by the second.

ZAAN YI is built from both.

As Asian American photographers, our work is shaped by a deep respect for heritage and a love of refined simplicity. It’s in the way we pay attention to gesture. The way we balance intimacy with structure. The way we document the story beneath the surface.

We don’t just photograph weddings — we photograph families becoming something new. And whether we’re shooting a high-rise rooftop in the Gold Coast or a tea ceremony in a private estate, we’re always looking for that intersection of tradition and individuality.

For us, heritage doesn’t mean repeating the past. It means honoring it — and evolving it, frame by frame.

Our aesthetic draws from our upbringing: calligraphic composition, negative space, a palette that prioritizes feeling over trend. We’re not chasing what's popular. We’re focused on what lasts.

Because every photograph is more than a record. It’s a link — from where you’ve been to where you’re going.

And for the couples who resonate with that… we’re here to tell your story, with clarity and care.

If your story is rooted in culture, legacy, or personal tradition — we’d be honored to help preserve it. [Let’s talk about what matters to you.]
